Haiti - FLASH : Christians burn a voodoo temple

In the night from Wednesday to Thursday, January 4, 2018, in Bois de Choute (Commune of Carrefour) unidentified residents burned the peristyle of Hougan Maxime Jean Faveur "accused of witchcraft" by the population. He was arrested with two of his servants (for their protections according to the police) at about midnight, following a complaint from a woman who accused the Hougan of wanting to cast an evil spell on her at night to turn her into an animal... According to a police source from the Carrefour police station, they would be released the next day. For the moment, Maxime Jean Faveur has taken refuge in a hidden place, fearing for his life...

However, a CASEC Counselor from Thor speaks of arrest for "black magic practices that have harmed the lives of a godly woman." Shortly after the intervention of the police, residents of the area burned the peristyle and the home of the Hougan Faveur...

Hougan Erol Josué and Director General of the National Bureau of Ethnology denounced this criminal act, which constitutes, according to him, a violation of the freedom of religion guaranteed by the Constitution and announces that voodoo associations will file a complaint against all those who participated to this violation, describing as "barbaric" this action of Christians intolerant and disrespectful of other religions.
