Haiti - Politic : Energy and environment on the agenda

Tuesday at the Convention Center of the Bank of the Republic of Haiti (BRH), together with CARICOM, the Ministry of Commerce through the Haitian Bureau of Standardization (BHN) organized a Consultation meeting around a proposal of Regional Code of the Caribbean on Energy Efficiency Building, which aims to find solutions to the economic and environmental problems of the region related to the consumption of petroleum products. This meeting allowed various stakeholders involved in this theme to put forward their views and proposals on this code.

Developed by the CARICOM Regional Organization for Standards and Quality (CROSQ), following the 41st Special Meeting of the Council for Trade and Economic Development (COTED) held in Trinidad & Tobago in 2013 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-8773-haiti-economy-launch-of-the-caricom-aid-for-trade-strategy.html , this document has been submitted for 6 months to the analysis of the member countries for a future validation and application in 2018. Haiti has until Monday, January 15 to share its comments and recommendations to CROSQ.

Trade Minister Pierre Marie du Meny emphasized the importance of this activity for Haiti, which currently holds the rotating presidency of CARICOM. According to him, by engaging in this process, Haiti is contributing to international efforts to reduce carbon dioxide emissions, in particular by improving the energy performance of buildings.

According to Michel Barthole Paultre, the coordinator of the BHN, each country must make proposals that take into account its specificities, which will be taken into account in the final report, underlining that entrepreneurs, traders as well as households are concerned by this code.
