Haiti - FLASH : Manno Charlemagne passed away

Manno Charlemagne, born in 1948 in Carrefour, who had lung cancer and has struggled for years, died this Sunday, December 10, 2017, in Florida, where he had been hospitalized for some time, he was 69 years old.

A committed singer-songwriter and former Haitian politician, he lived in exile during the 1980s and from 1991 to 1994. In 1978, with the musician Marco Jeanty, he recorded in Port-au-Prince his first album, Manno and Marco, composed of committed songs, whose broadcast on Radio Haiti-Inter is a great success. Manno Charlemagne returns to Haiti in 1994. He is elected mayor of Port-au-Prince in June 1995, he will remain in post until 1999.

"It is with great regret that I learn the disappearance of a remarkable singer, Joseph Emmanuel Charlemagne, aka Manno Charlemagne. Our History will be grateful to him... To his family, his friends and the whole country, I send my deepest sympathies and sincere condolences !" announced the Minister of Culture Limond Toussaint.
