Haiti - Politic : Official Announcement of the 5th General Census

Thursday at the Royal Oasis Hotel (Pétion-ville), the Haitian Institute of Statistics and Information (IHSI) under the patronage of the Primature has officially announced the 5th General Census of Population and the Habitat, planned to begin in October 2018 around the theme "Resansman popilasyon an se zafè nou tout, ann pote kole".

The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), one of the partners in this census, will provide technical assistance, support for national capacity building, coordination among partners and management of the allocated fund.

This fifth census estimated at nearly 30 million US dollars is funded for $ 8 million from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the World Bank (10 million US), Global Affairs-Canada (6.1 million US) and finally the Haitian public treasury for about $ 6 million https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-22584-haiti-politic-more-than-$30m-for-the-next-census.html

Between 15,000 and 20,000 people (academics) will be mobilized and recruited by competition for this census. A pilot phase will be carried out partially in 4 departments (Artibonite, Grand'Anse, West and South) by February 2018 in order to test and improve the device, whose data entry will be done for the first time in Haiti using digital tablets, which will facilitate the management of field operations and logistics.

The main objectives of this census are to establish the current state of the population with regard to all persons and housing and to provide the government and partners with demographic, economic and social data for the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of policies and projects and also providing indicators for the fight against poverty, social policies and employment.

Recall that Haiti had its first modern census in 1950 followed by 3 others in 1971, 1982 and 2003. The United Nations, recommends a census every 10 years.
