Haiti - TPS : «Haiti is not prepared to take back nearly 60,000 TPS recipients»

Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, Congresswoman for South Florida, reacted to DHS's decision not to continue the extension beyond 18 months of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-22759-haiti-flash-tps-more-than-50-000-haitians-will-have-to-leave-the-usa.html "I travelled to Haiti after the earthquake in 2010 and after hurricane Matthew in 2016. So I can personally attest that Haiti is not prepared to take back nearly 60,000 TPS (58,706) recipients under these difficult and harsh condition.

Nicaraguans, Hondurans and Haitians have helped our South Florida community develop in diversity and character. Their loss would be a tragedy for Miami. We must pass a law that allows them to stay and stop the division of families."

For her part Congresswoman Yvette D. Clarke, 9th District of New York, said "Stand with me, Ileana Ros-Lehtinen and Pramila Jayapal against today’s decision. Urge Members of Congress to sign onto bipartisan legislation to extend TPS. We cannot depend on this Administration to do what’s right.

Deporting Haitians in the US under TPS in 18 months is the wrong decision. Plain and simple. It is cruel and unconscionable."

In response Ileana Ros-Lehtinen stated "Thank you Yvette D. Clarke ! We need to pass the law ASPIRE https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-22692-haiti-flash-towards-a-permanent-residence-for-immigrants-benefiting-from-the-tps.html to help many folks who positively contribute to our nation!"
