Haiti - Telecommunications : DSS invests $14MM in digital TV

Le Conseil National des Télécommunications (CONATEL) has authorized Digital Satellite System (DSS) to install an encrypted digital television system in Haiti. The DSS, as part of a tender will install on all the territory, a digital terrestrial television network encrypted in accordance with all laws governing the telecommunications and the media operations in Haiti.

DSS Company has committed to pay $3MM to the Haitian State and to invest $14MM on one year to develop a national network of over 60 TV digital channels in accordance with the characteristics and technical requirements of specifications submitted by CONATEL in order to provide a high quality service to the public.

A fund fed by fifty percent (50%) of the concession rights for digital television is expected for the promotion of the local content development in the audiovisual field.

CONATEL said that other major investments in the telecommunications sector will be announced in the coming weeks some of which will cover specific areas such as the northern department of Artibonite, or that of Grand Anse.
