Haiti - Elections : The OAS-CARICOM dialogue around the second round

The Ambassador Albert Ramdin, Assistant Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), met Monday with Tillman Thomas, Prime Minister of Grenada and the President of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) on the evolution of the policy in Haiti. This meeting with the the President of CARICOM, followed a briefing held recently in Jamaica with the outgoing President of CARICOM, the Jamaican Prime Minister Bruce Golding.

During the meeting held at Prime Minister's Office in Grenada, Albert Ramdin, submitted to the President of CARICOM the official report of OAS experts responsible to verify the preliminary results of the first round of Haitian elections of November 28, 2010. The Ambassador Ramdin and Prime Minister Thomas have also examined the concerns and challenges in Haiti and the preparations for the second round to be held on March 20.

According to Ambassador Ramdin, the dialogue between the OAS and CARICOM on this issue is important given the presence of haiti in these two organizations. Ramdin, who is also the the President of Task Force of the OAS in Haiti, raised the question of the collaboration between the OAS and CARICOM in the economic and social development in Haiti "The Caribbean Community has an important role to play in facilitating discussions on this issue, both now and in the future", said the Ambassador.
