Haiti - Politic : Important meeting on water and sanitation

Wednesday at the National Palace, President Jovenel Moïse invited national and international partners involved in water and sanitation management to an important working session.

The objective of this session was to present to international partners the vision of the Head of State as reflected in the Lafontant Government's policy in the field of sanitation and drinking water. The expected result was to ensure that international partners that support the National Directorate of Drinking Water and Sanitation (DINEPA) align their interventions with the government's action plan.

The President emphasized on the drinking water and sanitation infrastructure through strengthening the technical and material capacities of DINEPA and its four regional bodies (OREPA).

For their part, international partners, including the United States Agency for International Development (USAID - Haiti), the Spanish Agency for Development Cooperation (AECID), the French Development Agency (AFD), well as multilateral actors, in particular, the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the World Bank, UNICEF and the European Union expressed their satisfaction with the political will of the Moïse Administration to provide the country with adequate infrastructures that could improve the conditions for hygiene in the country.

In order to ensure the coherence of initiatives in the area of water and sanitation, the partners agreed to convene the sectoral table every week in order to monitor the implementation of the DINEPA action plan and make if necessary, corrections as necessary.
