Haiti - Petit-Goâve : Deprived of class, students demonstrate

On Monday in Petit-Goâve, the students of the Fundamental School of Application and Educational Support Center (EFACAP) demanded the resumption of classes in the classrooms which have been closed for two weeks due to a strike of teachers in this school. "We have not studied for two weeks because teachers are on strike," said EFACAP pupils, who brandished placards on which was wrote "Aba the strike!" Long live education !"

Young demonstrators in anger more violent than others, threw stones in the direction of the College of Petit-Goâve and the School of the Sisters and forced the leaders of the private schools to release their students... The high school students immediately joined the demonstration as a sign of solidarity.

In addition, Monday 16 October, the teachers of Lycée Faustin Soulouque also began a strike to demand payment of arrears of wages.

For the moment in Petit-Goâve, the main public schools no longer function...
