Haiti - Economy : Towards a Haitian Trade Mission to Canada
This week, the Canadian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIHC) hosted a breakfast meeting with several members of employers' associations to promote the trade mission that will be undertaken by CCIHC-Haiti in Canada from November 15 to 19.
Pierre-Marie Du Meny, the Minister of Commerce present at this breakfast, did not fail in his intervention to reiterate his commitment to the success of this mission whose he will direct the delegation on the importance of letting Canadians know that Haiti is ready to welcome foreign entrepreneurs and investors, stressing that together with the Haitian business community it is important to encourage foreign entrepreneurs to prospect on the real investment opportunities that exist in Haiti and to benefit from business opportunities that can be exploited and leveraged by any potential investor.
Minister Du Meny also put forward "the efforts of the Government devoted to the effective practice of freedom of enterprise, respect for property, the easing of the social climate and the revival of domestic production," recognizing that Haiti does not produce enough.
For her part, Tessa Jacques, Director General of Investment Facilitation Center (CFI) that will be part of this mission, promises to accelerate the process of granting inducements to investment. She stressed that complementary mechanisms, further easing the procedures and formalities relating to investment was now in the implementation phase.
Claude Martin Jr., President of the CCIHC, welcomed the initiative of the Minister of Commerce to commit to supporting this mission and stressed the urgency of the moment for the public and private sectors to unite to speak with the same voice face the foreign interlocutor for the benefit of Haiti "Today, Haiti must work to project on the international scene its new image and its new assets [...] We must above all highlight the advantages offered to investors," he also pointed out that many Haitians who had gone abroad, would have liked to be able to return to invest and invest themselves in the recovery of the economy of their country. He therefore believes it is imperative to address the concerns also to this category of people.
