Haiti - FLASH : Impressive floods in the North

The heavy and sudden rains that struck for several hours on Friday night on the North Department resulted in impressive flooding in several areas, including Milot and Grande Rivière du Nord. No loss of human life is to be deplored.

Several houses have been flooded and considerable material losses are recorded, according to the first provisional assessments of Civil Protection. The population of these communes, surprised by the rise of the waters, had to evacuate in the precipitation in the houses of relatives during the evening.

The 7-kilometer road leading to the Citadel Henri is cut off due to a landslide.

The mayors of the two neighboring communes and the volunteer Civil Protection brigadiers are working to accompany the population. The Public Works initiated, very early Saturday, cleaning and clearing of roads.

In the Central Plateau, the volunteer brigadiers intervened during the night from Friday to Saturday to alert the local residents to the rise of Guayamouc and the beginning of a flood in Hinche.

The Directorate of Civil Protection (DPC) informs that Saturday the river Massacre has entered flood and flooded the village Vertières, near the free zone in Ouanaminthe, forcing the residents to evacuate. 32 families were evacuated and found refuge in the premises housing the town hall of the city.
