Haiti - FLASH : National strike announced in the transport sector

Mehu Changeux, President of the Association of Haitian Owners and Drivers (APCH), launched a strike order at the national level, on Monday 18 September to force President Jovenel Moïse to renounce to the publication in the official newspaper "Le Moniteur" of the budget 2017-2018, ratified by both Houses of Parliament.

Several trade union platforms in the Transport sector have already confirmed their support for the call for strikes launched by the APCH. The unions, which support the ongoing protests against the budget, criticize the government for not taking any measures to improve the living conditions of the population, but on the contrary to increase the tax burden on the most disadvantaged strata of the population, describing this budget as unacceptable...

They ask the entire population to stay at home Monday, September 18, to force President Moïse to reverse his decision, otherwise they threaten to push claims to another level that will make the President's situation much more difficult...
