Haiti - Politic : Rumors of cancellation of the elections...

Since Sunday a rumor running strongly in the capital, Port-au-Prince, saying that the Government would consider canceling the elections of 28 November 2010. One of more, some will say...

This Monday, rumors and speculation were amplified, following an information relating a major meeting, which must be held today between members of the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) and several ambassadors and personalities including: Juan Fernandez Trigo (Spain), Kenneth Merten (USA), Igor Kimpman (Brazil), and representatives of the European Union, the Ambassador of France and Edmond Mulet, Special Representative of the Secretary-Genral of the United Nations and head of the Minustah mission in Haiti.

The demonstration of Sunday, organized by the Group of 12 has gathered +/- 200 participants claiming this cancellation. The challenge of Charles Henri Baker, demanding the cancellation of elections was declared inadmissible by the Electoral Tribunal and the challenges filed by Michel Martelly and Jude Célestin were referred Sunday, after deliberation of the Departmental Electoral Challenges Office (BCED), to the National Electoral Challenges Office (BCEN). The BCED believing that these records were not their legal qualifications.

To be continued but with reservations...
