Haiti - Sports : Launch of Olympic Week

Friday, at the Olympic Park, multi-sport complex "Centre de Sport pour l’Espoir, Haïti" Régine Lamur, Minister of Youth, Sports and Civic Action, participated in the launch of Olympic Week and has committed to promoting Olympic sports with a view to enhancing Haiti's participation in the XXXII Olympic Games, which will take place from 24 July to 9 August 2020 in Tokyo, Japan, and also promised to support the Haitian Olympic Committee (COH), the Federations and the Sports Associations in this perspective.

1,002 young athletes gathered in 8 Federations will compete during the Olympic week in: Handball, Basketball, Taekwondo, Boxing, Table Tennis, Athletics, Badminton and Checkers.

These competitions will allow young people to highlight their talents and celebrate Olympism before returning to school on Monday, September 4th.

"The activities launched today are called to open the door that will lead us to the achievement of objectives, to return to a responsible civic behavior and to detect and mentor the talent so that they can become athletes confirmed to success, and launch the preparations for the 2020 Olympic Games," said Minister Lamur, who took the opportunity to put in context the credo of the Olympism of Baron Pierre de Coubertin "The important thing is to participate."

"The important thing is not to have defeated but to have fought well [...] I hope that every athlete here present will give the best of himself, will lead the good fight and in case of defeat, one must accept the verdict, because the important thing is to participate."
