Haiti - Health : Inauguration of the 3rd Dialysis Unit of OFATMA

Monday, 3 days after the inauguration of a dialysis unit in Les Cayes https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-21791-haiti-health-inauguration-of-a-dialysis-service-in-les-cayes.html , President Jovenel Moïse inaugurated a third medical dialysis service, this time in the hospital of the Office of Insurance of the Insurance of the Work, Sickness and Maternity (OFATMA) of Cap-Haitien. It should be remembered that the first dialysis unit of OFATMA was inaugurated at the Cité Militaire Hospital on May 17 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-20972-haiti-health-inauguration-of-a-dialysis-service-at-the-ofatma-hospital.html . Haiti now has 4 dialysis services including the Haitian State University Hospital.

In the presence of, among others, the Mayor of Cap-Haitien, the Archbishop and the Minister of Social Affairs, the Head of State insisted that "the State must serve the population and not a group of people."

Dr. Chalumeau, Medical Director of OFATMA, stressed that this new Dialysis Unit is not only an institutional affair, but the affair of all "The Nation is grateful to the Head of State because the dialysis in the departments is an extraordinary step forward". He also pointed out that the Northern Dialysis Center reduces the need for management autonomy and decentralized budgets, with a view to the sustainability of this type of project.

In his speech, Dr. Jacques Jeudy, Director of the National Dialysis Program of OFATMA, said that today Haiti is a historic event in the field of health, with three dialysis centers, whose two of which in province, pointing out that this is the first time in Haiti, that peritoneal dialysis has been introduced within the dialysis units.
