Haiti - Montreal : Nearly 2,400 Haitians seeking asylum, CECI calls for help

The massive influx of Haitian immigrants from the United States, who illegally cross the border near the Saint-Bernard de Lacolle border post, are fearing as nearly 60,000 of their compatriots in the United States lose their TPS Temporary Protection Status in the United States https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-21037-haiti-flash-extension-of-tps-procedures-to-follow.html and to be expelled to Haiti from their country of origin, continues without any significant slowdown https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-21717-haiti-flash-waves-of-haitian-refugees-unprecedented-in-quebec.html

According to the Quebec Ministry of Immigration, Diversity and Inclusion, 2,388 immigrants would be housed in Montreal, of which about 700 at the Olympic Stadium, turned into a reception center last week. Some 300 asylum seekers were also expected Sunday in the former building of the Sisters of Providence of Ahuntsic-Cartierville.

The Center for International Studies and Cooperation (CECI) calls on the people of Quebec to show solidarity and humanism of asylum-seeking migrants and asks it to support the Maison d'Haiti, a Montreal-based community and cultural organization that has been a member of CECI for 45 years, dedicated to Education and integration of immigrant individuals and families and the creation and development of close links with the host society.

Marjorie Villefranche, Director of the Maison d'Haïti stresses "Asylum seekers must quickly find accommodation and equip themselves. For a family with children, it takes a good installation. Especially if the precarious situation persists..."

For his part, Claudia Black, the Director General of CECI, declared "When an emergency situation occurs in Haiti, CECI intervenes immediately, and each time we receive assistance from the Montreal-Haitian community. This time it is our turn to support the actions of the Maison d’Haïti in order to ensure the best possible reception for the hundreds of asylum seekers who are currently crossing the border between the United States and Canada."

CECI therefore invites the population wishing to help to make a donation directly on the website of the Maison d'Haiti : www.mhaiti.org/faire-un-don
