Haiti - Politics : Consumer Protection Bill

At the initiative of the Senator of the West, Antonio Chéramy (VERITE), the Senate office received the tabling of the Bill on Consumer Protection.

This Bill contains 8 chapters and 55 articles:

Chapter 1: Defines relationships between suppliers, vendors and service providers such as: business practice; Restrictive and unfair business practices; The abusive clause; The consumer contract;

Chapter 2: Establishes the principle of consumer protection with an implication of the right to redress wrongs;

Chapter 3: Deals with the prohibition of practices and unfair terms in relations between suppliers, sellers, service providers and consumers;

Chapter 4: Talk about the physical safety of the consumer and the protection of the environment;

Chapter 5: Addresses the concepts of consumer education and participation in decision-making;

Chapter 6: Specifies compensation for damage to consumers;

Chapter 7: Penal provisions;

Chapter 8: Treats final provisions, consumer contracts, unfair terms and the cancellation of consumer contracts in order to safeguard consumer rights.
