Haiti - FLASH : Failure, hundreds of Haitians leave Mexico

Several hundred Haitians who found themselves stranded in Baja California after being unable to enter the United States, chose to return mainly to Brazil, the country from which they came because they did not find what they expected in Mexico where they could not regularize their situation. The transport of these migrants was by air with resources jointly provided by the State of Baja California and the Mexican Federal Government.

Fransco Rueda Gómez, the Secretary General of the State Government of Baja California, recalled that initially about 20,500 mainly Haitian migrants arrived in the State and 16,500 managed to enter the United States before the restrictive measures of the Trump Government, while about 4,000 Haitians remained blocked in Mexicali and Tijuana.

"Of those 4,000, https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-21654-haiti-mexico-in-tijuana-and-mexicali-nearly-77-of-haitians-regularized.html nearly 800 Haitians decided to return to the country from which they came and obtained the support of the Mexican Government to return mainly to Brazil and fewer in Costa Rica, Panama and Ecuador."

Secretary General Rueda Gómez recalled that the State had set up a program of assisted return for more than 4 months to support all Haitians who decide to return to the country where they come from https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-20256-haiti-flash-mexico-offers-assisted-return-to-haitians.html , the others are invited to regularize their migratory status in Mexico. He acknowledged that regularized Haitians https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-21654-haiti-mexico-in-tijuana-and-mexicali-nearly-77-of-haitians-regularized.html integrate very well into the social and economic life of the State and that some have even already applied for driving licenses.
