Haiti - Security : Nearly 200 checks stolen, UEH takes stock

The Communication Unit of the State University of Haiti (UEH) informs the university community in particular and the general public that the investigation of the stolen checks during the occupation of the premises of the institution, from 5 February to 29 July 2016, follows its course https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-19229-haiti-education-illegal-occupation-ueh-announces-first-sanctions.html

Following this occupation, 196 checks totaling nearly 5 million Gourdes (4,976,760.50 Gdes) were lost, representing the salaries of a few teachers and employees for the month of January 2016.

Of these 196 checks, 16 were fraudulently cashed in successive waves in April 2016, August 2016 and January 2017, the thieves having deceived the vigilance of at least two banks of the place.

An amount of more than half a million Gourdes (565 997.22 Gdes) was thus unduly paid...

Meanwhile, the university authorities have obtained from the Ministry of the Economy the reprint of 176 of these checks, which have been handed over to their beneficiaries.

UEH emphasizes that the administrative and judicial procedures are continuing in order to allow all teachers and aggrieved employees get their due.
