Haiti - Politics : Towards bilateral solutions to fight hunger

Dr. Nathanael Hishamunda, Representative of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Haiti and his Dominican counterpart Carmelo Gallardo recently met with deputies, members of the Parliamentary Front against Hunger in the Dominican Republic (FPF-RD).

The FPF-RD Coordinator,  the deputy Hamlet Melo, expressed the interest of the Front to work with the Parliamentary Front against Hunger in Haiti (FPFH) https://www.icihaiti.com/en/news-21538-icihaiti-politics-creation-of-the-parliamentary-front-against-hunger.html on common interests for both countries, in particular in the field of agriculture and food and nutrition security. "We welcome the creation in Haïti of the Parliamentary Front against Hunger and we are ready to work with our colleagues deputies Haitian and share our experiences in the formulation of the Food and Nutrition Security and School Feeding Act."  Deputy Hamlet said he believed that the existence of the two Parliamentary Fronts against Hunger could unite the two governments in the search for solutions on trade relations, a binational issue of high importance stressing "It is important that the two countries, neighbors and brothers, establish and maintain cordial relations in order to resolve common problems affecting the welfare of the two peoples.

"

For his part, Dr. Hishamunda informed the Dominican deputies of the Parliamentary Front against Hunger that he enthusiastically welcomes their interest in supporting the process of creating the same Front in Haiti and sharing their experiences with Haitian Parliamentarians "FAO welcomes the interest of the Parliamentary Front against Hunger in the Dominican Republic to support the capacity building of the Parliamentary Front against Hunger in Haiti. We hope that exchange visits will soon take place so that parliamentarians from both countries can think together and find solutions that are adapted to bi-national problems, which can be reflected, if necessary, in legislation, particularly in the area of food and nutrition security."
