Haiti - Elections : Official position of the CEP on the OAS report

President Préval has finally given the official report of the mission of the Organization of American States (OAS) responsible for checking the preliminary results of disputed elections of November 28 to Provisional Electoral Council (CEP). The CEP will publish the final results of the first round at the end of the process of dispute without further details on a possible date...

"The Provisional Electoral Council informs the public in general, those involved in the electoral process, political parties and candidates for legislative and presidential elections of November 28, 2010 in particular, that it received the President of the Republic, His Excellency René Préval, the report of the OAS Support Mission of to the Verification of Tabulation of the Votes this Tuesday, January 18, 2011.

The CEP thank the President of the Republic for the demarche near the Organization of American States and welcomes the support given by the hemispheric organization for verification of the process of tabulating the votes that led to preliminary results.

The electoral institution also expresses its satisfaction with the work done by experts from the OAS Mission and welcomes the collaboration of the CTV and foreign experts who had assisted the CEP in the conduct of the process of vote tabulation expressed by the people, the November 28, 2010.

The CEP took the opportunity to bring to the attention of the public in general, political parties and candidates in particular, that the technical recommendations contained in the report of the OAS experts will be considered for the realization of the 2nd round of the election . Similarly, the possibility of a change of position in the ranking of the second and third candidate in the list published during the preliminary results, the December 7, 2010 will be taken into account in the processing of disputes at the level of the Departmental Electoral Challenges Office (BCED) and National Electoral Challenges Office (BCEN), in accordance with prescribed from the Electoral Law.

The Presidential candidates who filed challenges in relation to the preliminary results will be able to withdraw, at the Directorate of Communication of the CEP, a copy of the report of the Expert Mission of the OAS."
