Haiti - Security : Firearms Destruction Operation

On Tuesday, a firearms destruction operation was held at the Police Academy on the road of Frères, in the presence of Ronsard St Cyr, the Secretary of State for Public Security, Michel-Ange Gédéon the Director General of the National Police of Haiti (PNH) and several personalities including the Ambassadors accredited in Port-au-Prince Hiroyuki Makiuchi (Japan) and Fernando Vidal (Brazil).

Extract from the speech of Michel-Ange Gédéon :

We promise our partners, both domestic and international, that we will step up measures to control all firearms in circulation in this country.

The seizure operations will continue and the next phases of elimination of these weapons of misfortune will continue after October 15, 2017, which will mark the end of the mandate of the Minustah in Haiti.

The PNH will not hide, firearms must be kept under control. The illegal weapons seizure operations will intensify and at the same time we will seek to secure our borders, ports and airports more securely [...]"
