Haiti - Duvalier : France is not implicated in the return of Duvalier

The Embassy of France in Haiti, puts an end to speculation of all kinds from the Haitian population, officially rejecting the idea of a possible agreement between the government of his country, the Haitian authorities and other sectors of the international community in the return in Haiti of Jean Claude Duvalier.

Didier Le Bret, Ambassador of France in Haiti, said ignoring the reasons of the travel of the former president in exile for 25 years in France. He said that the French authorities were also surprised that the Haitian people. Swearing that he had no prior information on the intentions that led to this unexpected return. He recalled that the French government don't ask to their citizens, or foreigners in regular situation, like Jean Claude Duvalier, of inform the government of their movements.

Minister Lawrence Cannon has urged all parties to respect the constitution, democracy, human rights and the rule of law.

In Washington the same astonishment on this return "We are surprised by the timing of Duvalier's visit to Haiti. It adds unpredictability at an uncertain time in Haiti's election process", said Philip Crowley, the spokesman for the State Department.
