Haiti - Social : Fight against the scourge of sex tourism

Today, tourism is recognized as one of the greatest developmental factors in a nation. It encourages the development of places of accommodation and leisure and the return of foreign exchange, but also its negative corollary of debauchery of prostitution and even sex tourism.

It was in this context that the "Éloquence Club de Plaidoirie" (Advocacy Club) organized a training and awareness day on 4 June on sex tourism on minors and the application of the Protect-Act in Haitian law for the benefit of young executives working in the field of humanities.

Invited to this activity, the Office of the Protection of the Citizen was represented by two young executives of the Direction of Promotion of the Office Smith Prinvil and Steevens Martial. There was also a massive presence of students in the field of humanities and legal practitioners.

This day has helped inform participants of the legal and social consequences of sex tourism involving children, while encouraging them to denounce criminal behavior which they could be witnesses.

Interventions by skilled and experienced speakers in the field of criminology, among others, were followed by screenings of films and posters showing cases of sexual exploitation of children, which allowed participants to have a better understanding of this scourge that is the sex tourism, child pornography and prostitution of minors.
