Haiti - Social : Demonstrations force the cancellation of 2 ceremonies of the January 12, 2011
Fort National :
The launching of the project of 3,000 housing units at Fort National, scheduled at 11:00 am January 12, 2011, with the laying of the first stone, is turned into stone-throwing... Unidentified individuals have first tried to disperse the guests and officials by throwing stones and bottles. Police and UN officials had to intervene to disperse the demonstrators.

After the departure of the violent demonstrators, in a tense climate, residents of the neighborhood, waving placards, peacefully occupied the environs of the venue for the event, calling for more dialogue and transparency from the authorities. A malaise connected to the absence of communication from the authorities that they have not explained how the project would be implemented. Some residents fear being expropriated without warranty, others wondered while looking at pictures of the project "With what money will we pay these houses? How soon the country will become of like this ?"

Faced with the situation, Gérald Germain, Minister the Social Affairs has decided to cancel the ceremony, he promised to meet with residents to allay their doubts and answer all their questions.

State University of Haiti :
The Executive Council of the State University of Haiti (CE / UEH), to honor the memory of members of the university community who died during the devastating earthquake of January 12, 2010, organized a ceremony of homage to the victims. The Faculty of Applied Linguistics UEH on the street Dufort, was symbolically chosen to host this event which will end around 6:00 pm.

Was present, parents and relatives of the victims, residents of the street Dufort, teachers, administrative staff and numerous personalities including among others: Rosny Smarth, former Prime Minister and the Rector of the University Quisqueya, Gélin Collot, Dean of the Faculty of Law, Fritz Deshommes, the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Jacky Lumarque, the Vice-rector at the Research of the UEH and the writers Yanick Lahens and Georges Castera.

What was to be a ceremony of remembrance, of emotion and Peace, was stopped abruptly following the eruption of several dozen of student protesters demanding justice for Professor Jean-Louis Anil-Juste [assassinated before the earthquake ]. Protesters attacked violently to all those invited, overturning everything in their path, throwing earth, water bottles on the assembly, grossly insulting Jean Vernet Henry, the rector of the UEH and parents of the victims disappeared during the earthquake of January 12, 2010. The students blamed that the ceremony is limited unjustly to the victimes of the earthquake.

Given this climate of violence, of intolerance and profanation of these highly symbolic moment, the people invited have left the area fills with sadness, and incomprehension in front of individuals unable to observe a truce in this national day of pain and suffering.
