Haiti - Politics : Jovenel in Ecuador and Mexico

As part of the swearing-in ceremony of the new Ecuadorian President, Lenin Moreno https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-21006-haiti-ecuador-moise-will-attend-the-inauguration-of-president-moreno.html , the President Jovenel Moïse, accompanied by his wife Martine, arrived in Ecuador Tuesday evening at Mariscal Sucre International Airport, before heading to Quito, the capital on the Haiti Square where he laid a wreath of flowers at the foot of the Heroes of Haitian Independence monument.

The floral Offering ceremony took place in the presence of the Mayor of the city, representatives of the Haitian community in Ecuador and the staff of the Embassy of Haiti in Quito.

Subsequently, the presidential couple was invited to a welcome cocktail hosted by the Embassy, and then President Moïse went to the Hilton Colon for a bilateral meeting with the First Vice President of the Republic of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel.

The two leaders discussed various topics of national interest in connection with the continued cooperation between Cuba and Haiti.

During this one-on-one meeting, President Moïse addressed issues related to technical cooperation for the construction of reservoirs, which will be used to increase agricultural production. Discussions also included the establishment of trade relations between the two countries, the strengthening of medical cooperation, particularly in the field of hospital management, and the continuation of the scholarship program in the fields of agriculture, veterinary medicine and fisheries.

On Wednesday, after the inauguration, the President will travel to Mexico to participate in the 5th Summit of the Global Platform for Risk Reduction, an important event for the region and for Haiti in particular.

After this flash trip, the President will be back on Thursday, May 25th.
