Haiti - Army : Embryo of a Military Engineering Corps

As part of its mission to respond to the government's defense policy, the Ministry of Defense proceeded between 2012 and 2015, to the training of a total of 18 officers and 137 military engineers.

The Ministry recalls that "these technician officers and soldiers, who are the embryo of a Military Engineering Corps, are the result of bilateral cooperation between Haiti and the Republic of Ecuador". The main task of this Engineering Corps is to "participate and/or contribute to the rehabilitation and construction of public and/or private infrastructures at the request of the State and local authorities".

Examples of interventions of the Haitian Military Engineering Corps :

  • Artibonite: canal clearing, rehabilitation and construction of roads and public places (Petite Rivière de l'Artibonite) ;

  • In the West: rehabilitation of the Cornillon - Grand Bois road (3 km) ;

  • In the South: rehabilitation of the road to Vieux Bourg d'Aquin (damaged Matthew) ;

  • In the South-East: rehabilitation of the Côtes de Fer road ;

  • In the North, North-West, West, South and Grand'Anse various emergency relief interventions to victims during hurricane season ;

  • Construction of 400 cubic meters of fish ponds on behalf of the Food For The Poor organization in the South, North-West and Artibonite departments.
