Haiti - Economy : Inflation rises again

During the month of March 2017, the Consumer Price Index rose by + 1.2% on a monthly basis, compared with + 1.1% in February and + 14.3% year-on-year, compared with + 13.9% in the previous month.

The monthly increase in inflation is mainly the result of the behavior of consumption functions: "Food, Beverages and Tobacco" (+ 1.0%), "Clothing, fabrics, footwear" (2.1%), Health (+ 1.5%) and "Other goods and services" (+ 2.4%).

The positive change in theindex "Food, Beverages and Tobacco", which represents over 50% of the household budget, comes from : millet (+ 4.8%), ground maize (+ 1.6%), (1.5%), coconut (+ 1.7%), bananas (+ 2.1%), giraumon (+ 2.0%), mirliton pumpkin + 2.6%), eggplant (+ 2.0%), cabbage (+ 1.8%), onion (+ 1.1%), garlic ), Tomato (+ 1.3%), yam (+ 2.3%), malanga (+ 2.2%), potato (+ 1.9%), potatoes (+ 2.4%), papaya (+ 1.5%), lemon (+ 2.2%), refined sugar (+ + 1.5%) and cocoa powder (+ 1.3%).

The increase in the "Apparel, Tissues and Footwear" index is particularly linked to fabric prices (+ 1.3%), suit, universal jacket (+ 1.6%), men's t-shirt (+ 1.0% 4.5%), dress (+ 2.5%), shoes and tennis (+ 2.6%) and sandals (+ 2.1%).

The increase in the index "Rent Housing, Energy and Water" is mainly due to the increase in housing rent (+3.4%), propane (+5.6%) and charcoal (+0.9%) .

The increase in the "Health" index is particularly linked to the increase in fees paid to physicians (+ 2.2%) and hospitalization expenses.

The upward trend observed in the "Accommodation, Equipment and Maintenance of Housing" index follows the increase in the price of living room furniture (+1.0%), dining room (+2.0% (3.2%), curtains (+ 2.3%), refrigerator (+ 1.0%), detergent soap (+ 1.9%), disinfectant (+1.9%) and miscellaneous services (+ 1.6%).

Finally, the increase in the "Other goods and services" index was mainly due to the increase in the price of toilet soap (+ 2.0%), toothpaste (+ 7.5%), shampoo (+ 1.7%), (+ 6.9%), body cream (+ 5.3%) and the watch (+ 1.7%).
