Dominican President Danilo Medina will appoint in the next few hours Alberto Despradel alias "Chico" as the new ambassador of the Dominican Republic in Haiti. He will replace Ambassador Ruben Silié Valdez who was appointed Ambassador to Chile on 10 March.

Alberto Despradel, a member of the opposition of the Dominican Revolutionary Party (PRD), is considered an expert on Haitian-Dominican relations. He knows Haiti very well for having previously been Ambassador of this country under the government of former President Hipólito Mejía. He is also known for taking critical positions in the National Plan for the Regularization of Foreigners (PNRE), designed by President Medina. Despradel is considered as a trusted man of the Dominican Chancellor Miguel Vargas Maldonado.
