Haiti - Economy : Minister of MHAVE proposes to the diaspora to follow the Chinese example

Stéphanie Auguste, the Minister of Haitians Living Abroad (MHAVE), in her speech delivered this week at the launch of the National Diaspora Day, proposed to compatriots living abroad to invest $200 million annually in Haiti.

Extract from the speech of Minister Auguste :

"[...] Prime Minister Jack Guy Lafontant, in the presentation of his General Policy, insisted on the mandate to design and develop strategies for attracting investment from the diaspora in Haiti that falls to the MHAVE.

As you all know, the diaspora sends more than two billion US dollars each year to Haiti, but these transfers are mainly used for consumption.

[...] to stay in the sights of our roadmap https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-20559-haiti-flash-roadmap-of-the-minister-of-the-diaspora.html we will have to start moving the lines to go beyond the simple consumption of transfers from the diaspora.

It will take from the Forum of the Diaspora https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-20723-haiti-politics-fructuous-forum-of-the-diaspora.html to consider the diaspora's financial contributions in terms of productive investments through the creation of investment funds and other appropriate financial mechanisms so that the future investments of our Diaspora can not only contribute exponentially to the gross capital formation but also to the increase to more than 100% on an annual basis of foreign direct investment in Haiti which are currently about $ 100 million [...]

Why, in this perspective, do not create the right mechanisms to allow investors of our diaspora to invest more than 200 million dollars annually in Haiti. This would, after all, only represent 10% of the total annual transfers of the Haitian Diaspora. I would also like to point out that, according to a report I read recently, it has been established that 80% of foreign direct investment in China is not from the multinationals, but from the Chinese diaspora. We must now follow the path taken by China in its relations with its diaspora."
