Haiti - DR : Launch of the Diaspora Week

Monday in the auditorium of the University of Central del Este (UCE), San Pedro de Macoris in the Dominican Republic, Stéphanie Auguste, Minister of Haitians Living Abroad, accompanied by the Ambassador of Haiti Idalbert Pierre, Senator Wilfrid Gelin, Mayor of the City of San Pedro de Macoris, Tony Echavarria and Dominican Vice Minister of Culture Juan Morales, launched the 6th edition of Diaspora Week (April 17-23).

In front of hundreds of our migrant compatriots, Minister Auguste, whose it was the irst visit to neighboring land, pledged to do everything in her power to frame the Haitian community, with a view to ensuring its full social and political integration in Haiti.

She also seized the opportunity to assure our compatriots that the authorities of Haiti in coordination with the Dominican Republic were working to find a solution to the main problems concerning them and stressed the importance of this celebration of the week of the Haitian diaspora, to recognize the contribution and efforts of many Haitian nationals and descendants in the Dominican economy.

Senator Wilfrid Gelin (Center), a former member of the US diaspora, pleaded for the vote of Haitians abroad saying "I will fight for it to be a reality in the next elections, starting with the Haitian community of the Dominican Republic which is the closest to Haiti."

During this week, about fifteen activities will be held in Santo Domingo and Santiago, including the unprecedented concert of women artists of the island in the central colonial zone; The final of the football tournament "Cup of the Dominican-Haitian Friendship", and the 5th award of the Prize of the diaspora.

Recall that the Diaspora week, considered as the most important annual event of the Haitian community in the Dominican Republic, is organized by the Zile Foundation in coordination with the Embassy of Haiti in DR and the sponsorship of the Vimenca group / Western Union.
