Haiti - Technology : Green Energy for the Sub-police station of Bassin Caïman

As part of a project funded by the Caisse Populaire Espoir (CPE) of Jacmel, the Sub-police station of Bassin Caïman , located at the entrance to the town of Jacmel, was equipped with a solar energy system. Prior to this, the Sub-police station faced a major problem, with access to electricity virtually non-existent in the area. Often the police officers on service had to use the light from their mobile phone to brighten the walls of the station.

Faced with this situation, the officials of the Sub-police station have applied for funding for a solar electricity project, with the Board of the CPE, which answered positively to the institution.

Tuesday, at a press conference, Pierre-Louis Prévi, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Caisse, said that the financing of this type of project is part of the mission of his institution, which is to get involved in actions to solve certain social problems faced by the population, stressing "The lighting problem faced by this police station constituted a handicap for agents to ensure the security of citizens who frequented this area, as well as theirs."

The Sub-police station is now equipped with a renewable energy system including a 1.5-kilowatt inverter, two 135-watt solar panels, and four batteries.

In addition, Pierre-Louis Prévi announced that, in collaboration with the Town Hall of Jacmel, the Electricity of Haiti and the Departmental Directorate of the National Police of Haiti in the Southeast, the Caisse Populaire Espoir, lways within the framework of this project, will install 4 or 5 bulbs in the Bus Station of Bassin Caïman which will be powered by the system of the Sub-police station in case of absence of power provided by the ED'H, especially in the evening.

Péronneau Molière, Director General of the CPE said that the cost of this project was US $ 3,000, specifying that a technical evaluation had been carried out in advance to set up and maintain this solar energy system; reiterating the Caisse Populaire's commitment to continue working for the well-being of the people of the South-East.
