Haiti - Politics : Towards the recovery of the Great South

As part of the plan for the recovery of the Great South , following the recommendations of President Jovenel Moïse, Aviol Fleurant, the Minister of Planning and External Cooperation organized several working days with a team of State institutions, national and international organizations responsible for developing the action plan for housing construction for the victims of Hurricane Matthew.

During these days, the main political lines of housing post Matthew have been established. These include measures such as the movement of the homeless, support for reconstruction and assisted self-construction, production of serviced habitats, and the planning and urban planning documents for better management of urban and rural development.

The work team advocates, among other things, the integration of risk reduction measures in order to build better by paying particular attention to thethe most vulnerable and most affected group by Matthew. It also seeks to involve communities in all aspects of the recovery process in order to ensure ownership of activities by local populations and the adequacy of interventions with the local context.

Priority reconstruction actions will be directed at communes benefiting from a risk reduction plan (PRR): Apricots, Beaumont, Dame Marie, Jérémie, Moron and Roseaux. At the same time, risk reduction plans for the other 7 others communes in Grand'Anse will be developed.
