Haiti - Great South : Moïse relies on NGOs and international aid

Tuesday at the National Palace, President Jovenel Moïse, accompanied by Prime Minister Jack Guy Lafontant, President of the Senate, Youri Latortue, and of President of the Chamber of Deputies Cholzer Chancy, met with a large delegation from the Core Group, led by Sandra Honoré the Special Representative of the Secretary General of the United Nations, on the difficult situation faced by the population of the South, more than 6 months after the passage of Hurricane Matthew in this region.

The President of the Republic, who has just completed a tour in the department of Grand'Anse has pointed out to the international partners that prospects will hardly promising without a strong action, energetic and coordinated from the State institutions.

Deploring the precarious situation in which live the inhabitants of the Great South, the Head of State calls for coordination of NGO interventions on the field through the establishment of a technical body in charge of ensuring the effectiveness and efficiency of the actions.

Recalling the imminence of the beginning of the next hurricane season (June), Moïse insisted on the need to define an appropriate legal framework to carry out emergency interventions in the Great South. Of meetings between the Head of State, parliamentarians and NGOs operating in the targeted areas are planned in the framework of a concerted approach with a view to defining with the actors concerned a framework for the coordination of interventions for the benefit of the population of the Great South.

"There is a real desire to make the situation in the South a model of success to which I invite all those who have never refused their support of any kind to our country," declared President Moïse, who has given the guarantee that the State will assume its role of leader and regulator in the realization of development projects in the Great South.
