Monday at various road checkpoints, members of the Dominican Army arrested 88 undocumented Haitian migrants who were smuggled to Santiago and Santo Domingo.

The arrests were made at the military checkpoints of Guanal, Botoncillo, Copey, Santiago de la Cruz and Miches in the provinces of Santiago Rodriguez, Montecristi and Dajabón. According to the testimony of our compatriots, they had paid between 4,500 and 6,000 pesos for their journey on Dominican territory. They were handed over to the Directorate of Immigration in Dajabón for identification and repatriation to Haiti.

In addition, 3 Dominicans were also arrested for trafficking and smuggling of goods. During these inspections, several cartons of rum, garlic and other smuggled goods from Haiti were seized by the army.
