Haiti - Politics : Commitments and challenges of the new Minister of Environment

Pierre Simon Georges, the new Minister of the Environment installed by the new Minister of the Interior, Dr. Max Roudolph St Albin promised to lead a fight against waste, corruption and manage with austerity and without complacency.

He announced that, at the request of Prime Minister Lafontant, he was going to set in motion as soon as possible a program to promote alternative energy to wood, in synergy with all the ministries concerned in collaboration with Parliament and civil society .

The outgoing Minister Dieuseul Simon Desras drew up a list of some important work in progress to be completed by the new Minister, including: the creation of a Haitian biodiversity fund; The finalization of the National Policy for Combating Climate Change (NCCP) and the initiation of the process of access to the Green Climate Fund...

The new Minister will also have to apply Prime Minister Lafontant's road map, which includes "improving the country's vegetation cover and increasing it by at least 2% every year [...] proposing an economically viable alternative accessible to the systematic cutting of trees for the production of coal [...] to mobilize young people in order to make the reforestation of our lands a reality [...]"

Let's recall that Pierre Simon Georges was a deputy of the 45th legislature and former Secretary General of the Lower House and also Treasurer of the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP).
