Haiti - FLASH : Violence to Arcahaie, several victims, many damages

Wednesday the commune of Arcahaie experienced another day of violence, traders, users of the National #1 were once again hostagesof the crisis caused by the publication of the decree under the Martelly/Paul government, raising to the rank of commune les Arcadins https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-14858-haiti-politic-5-new-communes-in-haiti.html , thus depriving the commune of Arcahaie, of its richest part.

The highly motivated demonstrators demanded the abrogation of the decree and paralyzed the commercial and school activities. Public transport vehicles have been attacked, windshields of vehicles broken, the damage is significant. On Wednesday morning, a delivery truck from Euroceram Plus SA, carrying nearly US $ 30,000 worth of goods, has been the target of shot before being intercepted in Saintard near Arcahaie by a group of heavily armed, which after having forced the people on board to leave the vehicle, watered the truck with gasoline before setting it on fire. According to Manuel Desquiron, owner of Euroceram, the police and the Minustah were not far but did not intervene, according to testimony reported by his driver.

The West Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIO) condemned in a note the destruction and damage caused to vehicles, cargo and other goods on the National #1 in Arcahaie and requested the archeloise population to exercise restraint, recalling that every citizen has the right to claim and to demonstrate but in the respect of the public order and the laws. The CCIO, in concluding, urges the authorities to become involved in the peaceful and prompt resolution of this conflict and to take all measures required by law to guarantee the safety of lives and property.

Romila Petit Frère, the Mayor of Arcahaie abound in the same sense and asks the authorities to intervene without delay to put an end to this crisis which would have caused at least 5 wounded by bullets since last weekend according to the Deputy of Arcahaie Pierre Féquière Julien.
