Tuesday at a press conference given to the Ministry of Culture, 5 days before the start of the 3 fat days of the National Carnival which will take place this year in Les Cayes on 26, 27 and 28 February), the Mayor of Les Cayes, Jean Gabriel Fortuné said the preparations for the Carnival were very advanced saying "We are ready to 70%".

Claudel Dumas, the President of the Organizing Committee, was also pleased with the level of progress, noting that the construction of the 136 stands was going well. He took the opportunity to announce that about twenty musical and allegorical chariots will participate in the parade.

As for the estimated budget, the budget is 240 million gourdes (± 3.5 million US dollars), the same budget as the 2012 National Carnival which took place in Les Cayes. Noting that the government had already contributed 50 million Gourdes via the Ministry of Culture, which relies on traditional sponsors to continue to commit, as all remaining funds are not yet insured he indicated.

Concerning accommodation facilities, Mayor Fortuné recalled that 16 of the 18 communes had a quality hotel reception to receive the carnavaliers, which includes more rooms than in 2012. He also spoke of several thousand Private houses, which were mobilized to receive visitors in guest rooms, indicating that reservations were already underway. Finally, he announced that two villages of tents will be made available to visitors, one in Gelée and the other at the entrance to the city.
