Haiti - Economy : Dominican Ambassador predicts good relations with President Moïse

Following the investiture of President Jovenel Moïse, the Dominican Ambassador to Haiti, Rubén Silié, predicted that the relations between the two nations would be favored by the accession to power of the new Head of State of Haiti.

The Dominican diplomat recalled the private visit in January 2017, that Moïse made to President Danilo Medina https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-19822-haiti-flash-jovenel-moise-met-president-medina.html "to see development projects that interested him" https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-19850-haiti-politics-jovenel-moise-very-interested-by-social-programs-in-dr.html https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-20030-haiti-inauguration-jovenel-moise-58th-president-of-haiti.html and found that the two men developed at this meeting "a pretty good working chemistry."

He also highlighted the efforts made by the Mixed Bilateral Commission (CMB) for the relationship between the two peoples who share the island of Hispaniola. He explained that several projects were waiting for a "politically propitious" moment for the advancement of several projects, including: watersheds; domestic use of coal; environmental protection...

Moreover, he considered that the ban imposed on Dominican products in Haiti by the government of Michel Martelly, in October 2015 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-15156-haiti-notice-import-ban-by-road-of-certain-products-from-dr.html and the negative consequences for the two countries, will enable the new government to understand that the ban is not the solution to fight against smuggling and tax fraud in Haiti.
