Haiti - Economy : Inflation to 14.3% (December 2016)

For the month of December 2016, the General Index of Consumer Prices (base 100 in August 2004) amounted to 288.9 against 285.5 in November 2016 and recorded a monthly change in monthly inflation of + 1.2 % And 14.3% year-on-year.

The monthly increase in inflation is mainly due to the behavior of consumption functions: "Food, Beverages and Tobacco" (+ 1.2%), "Housing Rent, Energy and Water" (+ 2.6%), Maintenance" of Housing "(+ 0.9%) and "Other goods and services"(+ 1.9%).

The positive change in the "Food, Beverages and Tobacco" index, which accounts for more than 50% of the household budget, stems from: millet (+ 2.8%), ground maize (+ 0.7%), Beef (+ 1.0%), pork (+ 1.6%), fresh fish (+ 0.8%), eggs (+ 0.9%), avocado (+ 2.3%), bananas (+ 4.1%), green pea (+ 1.1%), dry pea (+ 1.0%), eggplant (+ 3.1% ), Cabbage (+ 3.0%), carrot (+ 3.6%), tomato (+ 2.7%), yam (+ 1.7%), malanga 2.1%), potato (+ 3.0%), potato (+ 3.9%), orange (+ 3.0%), chadka (+ 2.2%), lemon , Raw sugar (+ 1.1%), refined sugar (+ 1.0%) and other alcoholic beverages (+ 1.4%).

The rise in the "Rent of Housing, Energy and Water" index is particularly linked to changes in the items: housing rent (+ 0.5%), water supply (+ 0.2%) and coal Wood (+ 9.1%).

The upward trend observed in the "Accommodation, Equipment and Maintenance of Housing" index follows the increase in the price of living room furniture (+ 2.6%), dining room (+ 2.8%), of the refrigerator (+ 2.5%) and miscellaneous services (+ 1.9%).

The increase in the "Health" index is particularly linked to the rise in prices: drugs (+ 1.2%), corrective lenses (+ 2.9%), fees paid to doctors (+ 2.7%) and laboratory analysis And radiography (+ 0.7%).

Finally, the increase in the "Other goods and services" index is mainly due to the increase in prices: shampoo (+ 0.9%), toilet powder (+ 9.6%), cream for (+ 1.8%), other hair care products (+ 1.6%) and watches (+ 4.6%).
