Haiti - FLASH : Jovenel Moïse invites ex-General Namphy to his inauguration

During his private trip to the Dominican Republic, President-elect Jovenel Moïse met, former General Henry Namphy, as well as businessman Marc-Antoine Acra, who is in trouble with Haitian justice, two encounters that have provoked strong reactions in Port-au-Prince.

Questioned Wednesday in Santo Domingo by the press at the diplomatic lounge, on these two meetings Jovenel Moïse replied "These are Haitians. It is normal, as President of the Republic, to meet all Haitians. There is no Haitian that I will not meet [...]" questioned particularly about his meeting with Acra, on whom weighs allegations of involvement in a drug case, he firmly replied "[...] I am informed as you are. Justice must do its job. I did not meet Marc-Antoine Acra in a prison [...] and I am the President of all Haitians without distinction [...]" confirming that he had invited ex-General Namphy to his inauguration, on 7 February.

It should be remembered that former General Henry Namphy had replaced Jean-Claude Duvalier in February 1986 as head of the National Council of the Government. After handing power to Leslie Manigat in 1988 and then taking it over in a coup in June 1988, he was also the victim of a coup in September of the same year. Since then, he lives in the Dominican Republic and never returned to Haiti...
