Haiti - Economy : Haiti, a goldmine for Dominican exports

Dominican exports to Haiti for the period January-November 2010 have increased by 35.67% compared to the same period in 2009 for a value of $801.27MM. Haiti becomes this year, with 16% of cross-border trade, the second largest partner for the Dominicans.

The exports to Haiti have recorded a steady increase, since more than 10 years, from $61.93MM in the year 2000 to $647.59MM in 2009. Exports of nontraditional products (industrial, agricultural, agro-industrial and artisanal) represent 99.54% against only 0.46% for traditional products.

The industrial sector represents for itself $621,61MM (77.6% of exports), in growth of 27% compared to 2009. Among industrial products exported by the Dominican Republic include: cotton fabric ($175.63MM), pajamas for men ($76.98MM), cement gray ($36.39MM), the concrete reinforcing bar ($24.38MM), mineral fertilizers ($19.43MM).

As for agro-industrial products, they represent 18.81% of Dominican exports to Haiti. This sector has experienced the strongest growth, with 98.12% between January and November 2010, from $75.72MM to $150.02MM.
