Haiti - Elections : The protesters try to challenge the electoral judges
Tuesday, the verification work at the Vote Tabulation Center (CTV) was suspended for a few minutes following receipt of a summons from "Pitit Dessalin" and LAPEH requesting the resumption of the verification process where it was on December 23, when the protesters decided to leave the premises after the decision of the Electoral Court to apply Article 77 of Council Regulation https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-19598-haiti-flash-the-bcen-applies-the-regulation-the-protesters-leave-the-ctv.html

Moreover, a little before 4:00 pm the verification was interrupted following the filing by bailiff, at the registry of the electoral court of a request by the lawyers of Jude Célestin and those of Moïse Jean-Charles of recusation of the 5 judges composing the Bureau of the National Electoral Litigation (BCEN) for legitimate suspicion of serious bias and conflict of interest.

Josette J. Dorcély, the President of the Electoral Court, considering that only the board of directors of the CEP can decide on the motion of recusation filed by the protesting parties has transmitted their requests to the CEP for the legal suites. Moreover, in order to respect the act of justice which obliges her, she has announced the immediate suspension of the verifications, eaving unfinished the work that was to end this Tuesday.

For the PHTK, this request for recusal of the judges by the protesters is an ultimate attempt of the losers who try to delay the verification and prevent the publication of the final results scheduled on 29 December.

Furthermore, the day before, the law firm of Fanmi Lavalas on behalf of the candidate Maryse Narcisse sent a letter to de facto President Jocelerme Privert informing him of a summons made to the BCEN as well as to the president and members of the CEP, to warn them against any publication of final results.

Actions that may call into question the publication of the results that everyone expected impatiently, as expected Thursday, December 29, 2016.
