Haiti - Jamaica : Seizure of 3,000 pounds of Cannabis destined to Haiti

Wednesday evening around 11:30 pm, the Portland (Jamaica) police seized 3,000 pounds of Cannabis destined to Haiti during a special operation in White River.

Contained in 21 bags, the narcotics were found in a shack and two individuals considered to be major players in the drug-for-arms trade, were arrested and taken into custody.

The Portland Police are convinced that this Cannabis estimated at 15 million Jamaican dollars (± 120,000 US dollars) was destined for the drug-for-arms trade, practiced between local fishermen and their counterparts in Haiti.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Rex Swearing, the commanding officer of the Portland police, believes that this seizure has prevented the entry of dozens of weapons illegally into Jamaica.
