Haiti - Elections : Meeting in the Palace around the progress of the electoral process
On Tuesday at the National Palace, de facto President Jocelerme Privert, accompanied by Prime Minister Enex Jean-Charles, met with members of the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) on the progress of the electoral process. The meeting was attended by Sandra Honoré, Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Léopold Berlanger, President of the Electoral Council and the Director Uder Antoine, the Minister of Justice Camille Jr. Edouard of the Minister of Economy, Yves Romain Bastien and representatives of the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS).
"Today, as the Head of the Executive, it is my duty to inform me of the steps taken in relation to the inevitable second round of elections, which will enable Haiti to renew its political staff and the institutions to recover all the egitimacy recognized by the Constitution," declared Privert.
Sandra Honoré, referred to various difficulties encountered in security operations, of deployment of the PNH, of transport of material or the time limit for technical operations, which should deserve to be corrected.
Léopold Berlanger, for his part, declared "We welcome the good collaboration between the CEP and President Privert, as well as with the Government. This allowed us to have an ongoing dialogue on all issues that pertained to the electoral process and which involved the Government," underlining the attitude of the government which abstained from any interference in the electoral process.
Issues related to financial resources, planning, resource mobilization, nationalization of funding, steps to be taken to reach the second round and the proclamation of the final results of the presidential election, the registration of representatives and the integration of people with reduced mobility were discussed.
