Haiti - Health : New strike in public hospitals

The 19 public hospitals in Haiti are facing a new work stoppage since the beginning of the week.

Although the strike word of the National Federation of Health Workers (FENATRAS) concerns only small staff (support and administration), it has been observed in several health establishments, in particular in the Hospital of the State University of Haiti (HUEH), that doctors, residents and health personnel also observed a work stoppage.

They demand respect for the promises made by the Ministry of Health made at the end of August https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-18474-haiti-health-strike-ends-for-medical-residents.html Remember that in early December, Daphnée Benoît Delsoin, the Minister of Health had already announced the impossibility for the ministry to respect the promises of wage increase...

Dr Gabriel Timothée, Director General of the Ministry of Health, admitted that, in the absence of a budget, the Ministry was not in a position to meet its promises yet, but reminded the strikers that at a few days of the year-end holiday season, the time is not right to make a strike at a time when health services are usually very busy.

Since the beginning of the week, doctors and residents only manage people in hospital and no longer admit. They threaten to formally join the strike movement on December 19 if no satisfactory agreement is reached with the Ministry.
