Haiti - Politics : Funeral of François Séverin

On Tuesday, de facto President Jocelerme Privert, accompanied by Prime Minister Enex Jean-Charles, attended the official funeral of the former Minister of Agriculture, Agricultural Engineer François E. Séverin, to the Church of Saint-Pierre of Petion-Ville.

In the presence of numerous personalities from the Haitian political sector, including former President René Préval, former Prime Minister Jacques Edouard Alexis, former and current ministers and executives of public administration, parliamentarians, private sector, academia and civil society; Privert expressed his sympathies to friends, relatives, former collaborators and the family of the deceased, before praising the work that François Séverin carried out during his lifetime. "The noblest words: patriot, compatriot, democracy activist, technocrate, striver, modest peasant, public servant, none of these words could suffice to testify to the excellent quality of the man whose departure we salute today."

Jocelerme Privert also asked the Séverin family to receive, on behalf of the Haitian people and the Government, and in his own name, the National Order of Honor and Merit, awarded posthumously to François E. Séverin, Grade Grand-Croix Silver plate, for its great contribution to the emergence of a new Haiti and for its permanent commitment to the development of agriculture.

François Séverin was born at L'Anse-à-Veau on 11 December 1946 and died on 8 December on the eve of his 70th birthday. Former Minister, former Chief of Staff of former President René Préval, Minister on five occasions, whose the last position under the government of Jacques Edouard Alexis, from 2006 to 2008.
