Yesterday Thursday UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon intervened at the United Nations Headquarters in New York on a new approach to the fight against cholera in Haiti, among other things he asked forgiveness to the Haitian people for the cholera, on this occasion a message in Creole was made available (original and translation below):

"I'm Ban Ki-moon,

Secretary-General of the United Nations

Today I say to the Haitian people: Honor. Respect

You have suffered great pain for the amount of people who have lost their lives because of the cholera, and the amount of suffering that the disease has brought to Haiti.

On behalf of the United Nations, I want to say clearly : we apologize to the people of Haiti

We did not do enough when the cholera appeared, and when it spread throughout the country.

We regret much

I know that forgiveness does not cure wounds.

But I know that the United Nations as a whole will stand firm alongside the victims, alongside the Haitian people until the cholera is defeated.

Today we want to attack the cholera with more force and determination, to support the efforts that are being made so that more health teams give relief quickly. So that everyone has access to safe drinking water and health in more places in the country.
