Haiti - FLASH : Incidents and violence around preliminary results

Since Sunday afternoon, automatic weapons fire of unidentified origin have been reported, causing panic in the population, among other in Delmas, Bourdon, Canapé-Vert and Pont-Morin, tension and violent actions of protesters are multiplying. Sporadic fire continued on Monday

On Tuesday, residents reported tensions at Delmas 60, where individuals threw stones and erected barricades of burning tires. Other spontaneous and violent demonstrations were also reported at the carrefour de l'aviation, la Saline and Delmas 2 where shots were heard according to testimony. The police had to intervene with tear gas in the district of La Saline (stronghold of Fanmi Lavalas) to regain control of the situation and disperse the protesters.

Me Camille Edouard. Jr., the Minister of Justice and Public Security, deeply concerned by the rise in the violence of the past 48 hours in the capital but also in Jacmel, wrote to the Government Commissioner Danton Léger (Port-au-Prince) and to the Commissioner of the Government Françoise Morailles (Jacmel) to ask them to apply law in all its rigor against the troublemakers.

[...] The Minister of Justice [...] wishes to express his deep concern at the increase in violence [...] . In order to counteract any slippage, the Minister urges you to apply in all its igor, the law against the troublemakers and thus maintain public order. Therefore, it invites you to bring the Commissioners Substitutes to abound in the same direction, by taking the legal provisions in the circumstances [...]"
