Haiti - Cholera Epidemic : Bill Clinton want to double the CTC in Haiti

Bill Clinton, whose foundation has donated one million dollars to fight against cholera, laments that there only 60 of the Cholera Treatment Centres (CTC) in Haiti. He said that "it is far from enough" and must find ways to meet the needs of all patients. He said he wanted to mobilize international donors in order to double the number of CTC in the country.

Alex Larsen, the Haitian Minister of Health, praised the efforts of all partners in the fight against the epidemic, noting that Haiti can not cope alone with this scourge. The Minister stressed on preventive measures and information against cholera "It's a disease that kills quickly, but if the patient visits the hospital, at the first symptoms, he can quickly be cured. "

"What you should know is that cholera is not a supernatural disease, as is believed by many citizens living in remote areas especially in the Grande-Anse, where people died because they were accused to have spread the cholera by mystic way [...] this is not normal, people need to know that the disease exists and they need to go at the hospital at the first symptoms".

Since the beginning of the epidemic of cholera in the country (October 19, 2010), 109.196 people were infected and treated, 54.595 people were hospitalized and 2.405 people died. According to the most recent assessment of MSPP, dated of December 12, 2010. Note that these figures are grossly underestimated by the government, according to health experts from the UN, who believe that these figures could be double those released.
